Hoof Clinic: On Saturday Sept 11, we will again be hosting a hoof clinic with Paige Poss of www.ironfreehoof.com. For those that came last year, we are still talking about the great clinic she put on and all we learned about the hoof, lower leg structures and seeing hoof balance. Whether your horses are barefoot or shod you will find it interesting. The clinic will be held in Unionville. Contact Sharon for details and to sign up to attend. Cost will be $40, VaApHC members $25.
Saddle Fitting: In October we will be hosting a saddle fitting clinic. Watch this site for details.
Green Horse problem horse clinic: working on a fall clinic.

Summer updates

It was good to see everyone at Kelly’s Ford for our get-together! The ride turned out great, the weather cooperated, and we had a great group of horses and riders. We enjoyed a break in the temperatures, the rain held off and it was a great ride along picturesque streams, country lanes, pastures and a few hills to challenge us. We ended the day with tubing down the Rappahanock – which was more comic relief than adventure – as we pushed and dragged our tubes over the rocks in the low water, laughing all the way! (we’ll have to return after a rain)
There was a productive meeting where it was approved to donate $200 to the USERL (U.S. Equine Rescue League) to aid them in their work caring for the recent Virginia Horse cases.
We thanked all our sponsors and workers for making our Judged Trail Ride a success. With the support of so many members and local business we were able to again offer great prizes to our riders. Watch your upcoming newsletter and this site for updates on our sponsors.

Its mid-summer and time for us all to get together and just enjoy the day. We are having a Member’s Day at Kelly’s Ford on Sunday Aug 1st. We will go out on a trail ride starting at 10am, have lunch provided by Kelly’s Ford at 12:30, have our general membershp meeting, then spend the remainder of afternoon tubing down the Rappahanock River. Come Join us! Get your RSVPs to Sharon by friday July 23th.
You may come for all the activities, just lunch, or other activities if you’d like. Kelly’s Ford has horse camping, The Inn, canoeing, and a pool you can enjoy. Horses are also available to rent if you don’t want to trailer in with yours. If anyone is interested in becoming a member you are invited to join us! See you there.

We like to give all our sponsors a big thank you for supporting Virginia’s Horse clubs, horse owners and riders. Thank you again for participating !

Pictures from the Trail Ride are posted under the Photo Tab in the
“Online Photo Album”. We want to thank everyone who came out. It was great to see everyone and see everyone enjoy themselves with their horses. It was hot, but the morning wasn’t too bad and the stream crossing was refreshing! Alot of you braved the heat and stuck around for the awards, for those of you that headed for home we’ll get your awards mailed to you soon. We’ll recheck our results and will have them posted soon. For now enoy the pictures and
THANK YOU riders and volunteers!! Horse people are the BEST!

Just a few more days until we see you at the Trail Ride – the obstacles are in place, the maps are printed and the BBQ guy cometh! Looks like it will be hot, but a little cool down compared to this weeks heat wave. We suggest you come early to ride (first riders out at 9am) then relax, shop the bargains at the silent auction and tack trailer, visit the SPCA booth, eat BBQ and we’ll hope the ice cream truck will pay us a visit in the afternoon (we’re trying!). We may not be able to team pen in the afternoon if its too hot for the cattle to be run around, but they will be penning on friday night, if anybody would like to come in early and camp the night before. Andora Farm is just past Luck Stone on the right coming from Fredericksburg on Rt 3, and a couple of miles on the left, past Rt 29 if coming from Culpeper. Remember to bring your horses registration papers if you’d like to be eligible to be entered in a breed division, and of course coggins. See you there!

We’re busy getting ready for the Trail Ride, hope everyone is enjoying their horses as summer rolls in. We wanted to add the times for the ride: Registration will begin at 8:00 am. First horse out will be at 9:00 am with the last horse out at 12:00 noon. You may continued to register up until last horse out time. Reminder that everyone MUST have a coggins, under 18 must wear a helmet and everyone is to HAVE FUN!

Saddle Log

Now that the weather is improving and we are dusting off our saddles to enjoy some riding, why not keep track of your time riding by signing up for the Saddle Log? If you show or just enjoy a ride in the back yard, its a great way to track your progress and earn time for year end awards! We have an App saddle log (of course) and new for our members that ride other breeds (there are other breeds?) we have a saddle log program for the non-appaloosa rider. The forms are under the Form Tab, sign up, send it in to Jackie and start tracking those hours!
