Our Open Show will be Saturday September 12th at Southern Heritage Farm in Midland VA. The Show is open to ALL breeds.
Wow! It was astounding to see 75% of the total membership show up for the general membership meeting/picnic/and trail ride on June 14. What a great showing of interested Appaloosa owners and supporters, as well as a few new friends. After reading the reports from the 2014 ApHC meeting, one would expect a different outcome. With the number of registrations, new members, show participation, etc. at an all time low, it is encouraging to see this kind of turnout. So just how did this happen?
As a new regional club President and fairly recent member of the VaApHC, I think it’s because the VaApHC members have more than a common interest. They genuinely like each other. I see friendly banter and old friends reunited at these gatherings. The trail riders all look happy and well-mounted. Some on Appies, some not. It doesn’t matter: Everyone just seems to enjoy each other’s company. Add to that a ton of delicious food and a wonderful setting, and you have a successful meeting.
And what a wonderful response to the Horse Show Committee’s proposal for an Open Horse Show scheduled for September 12 at Southern Heritage Farm in Midland. This will be the club’s 2015 fundraiser and lots of enthusiasm is needed to make this project a success. Club member participation is needed from sponsorship opportunities to volunteering, and of course, to entering the show!
I hope that our club’s growth and success is indicative of a trend in the National Club. We need to be less focused on bloodlines and internal controversy and more focused on creating a friendly environment for hose enthusiasts to participate and enjoy each other’s company. We all want to see our breed registry grow, our membership soar, and our shows be a resounding success. But, its how we get there that counts.
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting an Open Horse Show ! The Show will be held at Southern Heritage Farm in Midland VA on SEPT 12. Several members had attended the SBRAA Show at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington VA in April to kick off the show year. This fun group again showed in Delaware at the Delaware Appaloosa Horse Associations show in May. If you’d thought of showing at Appaloosa shows, now is a great time. With new Walk/Trot classes to get exhibitors back in the ring, or new to the ring, and a fun group, we’d love to help and support new members!
Our first Trail ride of the year was held in April and was at Phelp’s park. We have a ready group of avid trail riders and a great turnout for this ride. You do not have to have a registered Appaloosa, or even an Appaloosa to join us!
General Membership Meeting, Cookout and Trail ride will be on Sunday June 14th at Lake Anna State Park. Plan to ride out (saddled and ready) at 10:30 am. Cookout and Meeting to follow at Noon. You may join us for the ride or just the Food and Meeting. Details and updates will be on the facebook page.
We will again BE attending the Delaware Appaloosa Horse Association show on Aug 22-23.
We are working on holding an Open Show! It will be in Sept, so stay tuned!!
