Our Annual Awards Banquet and Meeting will be held on Sunday Jan 15th at 1:00pm at the Charity Hill Lodge in Ladysmith. Dinner will be provided for the members – members may bring a guest for a fee. Watch your email-box for your invitation and RSVP by Jan 4th to Sharon. The Lodge cooks us GREAT food in their outside BBQ and with the outstanding company its a fun time, so come join us! Tom Seay will be joining us this year and we will talk about our exciting 2012 plans. New members are always welcome!

News Flash

The News is Out. The Virginia Appaloosa Horse Club will be teaming up with Tom Seay to co-host several events at his farm for 2012. These will be open to the public and promoted on a national basis and on his RFD-TV show “Best of America by Horseback”.
First planned event will be May 18-20. Some of the events will include dinner, show concert, team penning, training clinics, trail ride, and trail challenge. With some serious prizes!
Come join the VaApHC and be at the center of a fun and exciting new venue for horses and horse people.

The holidays are right around the corner. With it come the end of the year happenings. Points are being counted, Saddle Log hours are in the mail, and the search is on for a few more volunteers for open board positions. The newsletter will soon be in the mail. Please consider the open positions on the nominee form. Volunteer and you can help make the Virginia Appaloosa Horse Club’s tenth Anniversary year the best yet! That’s right, June 2012, will mark our Tenth Anniversary. A celebration will surely be planned!

Look for the *News Flash* in the upcoming newsletter on our exciting plans for a new venue of horse activities we will be apart of. News Flash for members first, public release soon.

The Awards Banquet will be January 15th at The Charity Hill Lodge. Mark your calendars. Details and invitations will be sent out in December.

Fall Spec-tacular Pleasure Ride

Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the ride today. The obstacles were fun with headless horseman guarding ditches, pumpkins to trot through, “bodies” under bridges and even bones next to the water crossing – the best part for the horses were treats at every obstacle. It only took a couple of obstacles until the horses where looking for the next judge and their treat! The scores and winners will be posted very soon. Fall “Spec”tacular Judged Ride

We’d call it a SPOOKtacular Ride, but with horses .. maybe not the spooking part. Ride the obstacles and if you tell the judges “trick or treat” there will be treats for your horses! Hope you can come out and enjoy the day with us. Next saturday Oct 22nd. Best horse or human costume will win a prize! See rules in post below for address of Andora Farm – on Route 3 near Culpeper.

Fall Judged Pleasure Ride

October 22nd we will be hosting a fall Judged Pleasure Ride at Andora Farm in Culpepper VA. This Fall’s ride will be a FLAT $20 Fee to ride ! So if you’ve never tried a Judged Trail ride, or just wish to get a final practice ride in before the end of the season, come on out and join us. Age and Appaloosa divisions. Register at ride, rain date is Oct 29th. Registration begins at 9:00am, first horse out at 10:00 last horse ride out at noon.

August Happenings

We had another great ride at Kelly’s Ford Equestrian Center for our mid-summer general membership meeting. We seem to get a break in the weather! It was cool in the shade of the woods and the horses and riders appeared to enjoy getting out for a change in scenery. We went over our activities for the remainder of the year. First coming up is :

CLINIC AUGUST 20th. Equine first aid or “what to do until the Vet arrives” clinic given by Dr. Martha Mellish from Keswick Equine Clinic, www.keswickequineclinic.com. After the morning session, we will have Daniela Garrett, Equine Nutritionist, talk with us on equine nutrition. The clinic will be held at Roxana and Gordan’s farm in Unionville starting at 10 am. The clinic is free to members.

SEPT 10 we will have Paige Poss return to give us a clinic on “Reading the Hoof” so mark you calendars. Paige has given us a clinic for a few years now, she is always an interesting speaker. We’d like to hear your input on what she can cover in her clinic this year for the regular attendees, or what new participants would like to join us.

Oct 22 plans are underway for a fall Judged Trail ride.

Member’s Day at Kelly’s Ford

Happy summer to everyone! We are holding our summer General Membership Meeting at our Member’s Day at Kelly’s Ford Equestrian Center on Sunday July 31st. We will have a trail ride begining at 10:00 am, Lunch and a meeting at the Pelham’s Pub about 1:30 after the ride; then we will go tubing down the Rappahonock for those that want to cool off and to see if we still float after lunch. Kelly’s Ford has horses to rent if you can’t bring your own, also the Inn may have rooms for those of you that live far and possibly want to stay a night or two. If you aren’t a member yet and want to come join us – we have spot’s for everyone! You don’t have to have an Appaloosa. See www.innatkellysford.com for directions and link to amenties provided.
