April Update

Happy Spring everyone! We’d like to thank John Sanford for a wonderful clinic. It was great for our green horses to get out, and with the help of John’s extensive experience and calm demeanor we learned ways to put a solid foundation on our horses. Look for pictures under the Photo tab.

Our Judged Trail ride is just around the corner on May 28th at Andora Farm near Culpeper. This is our annual fundraiser and we need volunteers to make it another successful ride. We will be meeting Saturday April 23, 1:30, at Andora farm to plan for the ride and any volunteers are welcome to attend. If you’d like to sponsor a class/division you can contact Sharon. Details and entry forms will be posted soon!

Don’t forget to join us on FACEBOOK at Virginia Appaloosa Horse Club.

We will be sponsoring a Green Horse/Young Horse Clinic on Saturday, April 9th with John Sandford. The clinic will focus on groundwork and getting your horse ready to ride. John is the author of “Colt Starting” and “Beyond Green Broke” and is located in Locust Dale. The clinic will run from 9am to about 5pm with breaks and lunch. This is a wonderful opportunity to get our young or green horses out, around other horses and learning with the help and guidance of our own local natural horsemanship instructor. Clinic cost for members is $100 day/horse and “rider”; $25 day for auditor. Non-members may also participate at $110 day/horse and “rider”; $30 day for auditor. Drinks and snacks will be provided, but please bring your own lunch. For more infomation on John visit www.johnsandfordhorsemanship.com or contact dobermom11@msn.com to reserve your SPOT.

We will be at Kelly’s Ford Tack Swap on Feb 19th with a tailgate space that they have made available. Come on out and join us. We will have some information on our Judged Trail ride this year which will be on May 28th, at Tom Seay’s Andora Farm in Culpeper. We will also be there to answer any questions on our Virginia Bred Appaloosa Program, which is sponsored by the Va Horse Industry Board. We love to meet and sign up new members!

This spring we are working on an April clinic which will include Equine First Aid along with a speaker on Nutrition. Also in the works is a Green Horse/Young Horse training clinic. Details will be added as we get them.

Saddle Log

With the Arrival of good weather and more riding opportunities, don’t forget to sign up for the Saddle Log! Of course we have one for your registered Appaloosa, but also a Non-appaloosa saddle log. You may registered for the Saddle log on line by sending your information to Susan at sfoxtrotter@msn.com. We have set up a paypal account if you’d like to pay for memberships or programs directly through paypal. For those payments you may contact our Treasurer Roxana at castlekeep@vabb.com

February Things.

Just a reminder that the new board will be meeting Saturday, Feb 12th at 2pm at the Golden Coral in Fredericksburg/massaponax. It is a board meeting but, as always, members are welcome to attend.
We had planned on having a table at Kelly’s Ford Equestrian Center’s Tack Swap on Feb 19th, but it looks like they are full and we are on a waiting list. Will update this site if it looks like we will be bumped up to a space. Sounds like it will be a busy place again this year, come on out to look for those bargains.
The newsletter will be put together after our meeting, so if you have any news to share or ads to place, contact Deb soon.

We had some changes to our Officers and Board this year. Sharon Fiel will remain as President as needed

Vice President: Laura Cutler
Secretary: (was to be Sharon Fiel)
